Pediatric Plastic Surgery
|

Pediatric plastic surgery
involves the correction of a variety of pediatric deformities. These
can include rather complex conditions such as a cleft lip or a cleft
palate, or more common conditions including skin lesions, ear
deformities, and scar revisions. Congenital deformities of the skin
include vascular lesions, birthmarks, and moles. Often these can be
quite large or numerous, and many plastic surgeons prefer to remove
these when the child is young in order to prevent any physical
problems or psychological scarring. Deformities of the ear such as
congenital protruding ears, are another commonly seen pediatric
cosmetic problem. This condition can be corrected by a surgical
procedure called otoplasty (oh-toe-plass-tee). Remember, too that
cosmetic surgery can be used in conjunction with any surgical
procedure being performed on an infant or child in order to help
minimize visible scarring. For more information about |
